Huntington College teams with WBCL Radio Network to collect winter clothing for Romanian orphans

FOR RELEASE

Huntington, Ind.— Huntington College will partner with WBCL Radio's “Neighbors and Nations” project to help Romanian orphans and street children. On September 18, the collection of new or like-new winter coats and brand-new boots and shoes will take place at the Merillat Centre for the Arts at Huntington College from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The WBCL Radio Network will be on hand to conduct live broadcasts throughout the day.

“We are pleased that Huntington College and WBCL are teaming together to provide this opportunity to benefit Romanian children,” said President G. Blair Dowden. “This is yet another way Huntington College can work with the surrounding communities to impact our world for Christ.”

Huntington College will serve as one of eight collection sites for the “Neighbors and Nations” project. The project will kick off on Thursday, September 11, and continue on September 12, 18 and 19. Other collection sites will include WBCL studios in Fort Wayne, Ind., and First Baptist Church in Defiance, Ohio on September 11; Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum in Auburn, Ind., and McDonald’s Restaurant in Celina, Ohio, on September 12; First Presbyterian Church in Montpelier, Ohio, on September 18; and Decatur Bank’s Main Office in Decatur, Ind., and First Church of God, Columbia City, Ind., on September 19.

Donations will be distributed through Genovieva and Stephen Beattie of the Eastern Europe Aid Association. Genovieva, a native of Romania, and Stephen spend several months a year in Romania, building orphanages and soup kitchens to feed and clothe the thousands of homeless children. Most of these children roam the streets of Romania. Whether orphaned or sent to the street by impoverished parents who cannot care for them, many of them actually freeze to death during the long, hard Romanian winter.

Any monetary donations sent to the WBCL Likewise Project will be used to cover the costs of the project. WBCL can be heard at 90.3 FM to Fort Wayne and northeast Indiana listeners.
