Denver & the Mile High Orchestra return to Huntington University for a concert on November 18.
Huntington, Ind.—This year’s community arts schedule for the Huntington University Merillat Centre for the Arts (MCA) promises to deliver big laughs, acoustic and big band sound, and Huntington’s annual Christmas favorite. The hilarious antics of the Fred Garbo Inflatable Theatre Company, the acoustic sound of Christian artist Shawn MacDonald, the big band sound of Denver & the Mile High Orchestra, and the favorite annual Holiday Pops Concert by the Fort Wayne Philharmonic are the featured acts on the MCA’s 2005-2006 schedule.
The Fred Garbo Inflatable Theatre Company will kick off the MCA season at Homecoming on Friday, September 30, at 7:30 p.m. With a hilarious performance for the whole family, the Fred Garbo Inflatable Theatre Company has earned the praise and affection of audiences world wide. The New York Times heralded the act as “helium light and hilarious.” Bursting with original, fantastic, pneumatic suits of all shapes and sizes, the act will showcase juggling, dance, visual comedy, mischief, and art.
Christian artist Shawn MacDonald will be in concert on Friday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m. The Seattle-based singer and songwriter recently made waves in the Christian music industry with song like Gravity. His Christian testimony is said to be as powerful as his cool, coffeehouse acoustics.
On November 18 at 7:30 p.m., Denver and the Mile High Orchestra will return to Huntington University with their famous Christian big band sound. Formed by a group of friends at Nashville’s Belmont University in 1999, this exceptional group of trumpet players, saxophone players, trombone players, and rhythm section has traveled around the globe to perform at churches, conferences, festivals, and the Olympics.
On Sunday, December 11 at 2:30 p.m., the Fort Wayne Philharmonic will usher in the Christmas Spirit with their annual Holiday Pops concert. This Yuletide celebration, led by assistant conductor Bradley Thachuk, will feature seasonal favorites and a festive atmosphere. As the area’s premier symphony orchestra, the Philharmonic has been an essential part of Fort Wayne’s musical landscape since 1944.
Each of these events will be held in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Huntington University Merillat Centre for the Arts. To reserve tickets, please contact the Merillat Centre for the Arts Box Office at (260) 359-4261.
