Social work department inducts six students into honor society

HUNTINGTON, Ind.— Six Huntington University students were inducted into the Sigma Chi Chapter of the Phi Alpha Honor Society on Jan. 28.

This scholarship honors a student with senior standing who excels in the social work department; interested students were required to write an essay on the application of social work and faith.

During the ceremony, senior Erica Isenberg of Fort Wayne, Ind., was named the Curie Scholarship recipient. Huntington alum Charles G. Curie has more than 25 years of professional experience in mental health and substance abuse services field. He is currently serving as Administrator of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

The Sigma Chi chapter was created in 2011 to honor the top students in the social work program. Membership in the Phi Alpha Honor Society is based on GPA, number of credits and sophomore status.

The 2014 inductees are:

  • Hannah Mary Bowles, a junior from Noblesville, Ind.
  • Andrea Marie Christener, a sophomore from Decatur, Ind.
  • Mary Margaret Gilliam, a junior from Columbus, Ohio.
  • Abby Jacquelyn Goering, a junior from Carol Stream, IL.
  • Cara Ranae Heath, a junior from West Lafayette, Ind.
  • Anna Grace O’Dell, a junior from Columbia City, Ind.
