Alpha Chi announces achievements, activities

Huntington, Ind.—The Indiana Beta chapter of Alpha Chi National Honor Society has been active this spring. Among other achievements and activities, the Huntington University chapter was recognized at the National Convention of Alpha Chi in San Antonio, March 22-24, as a Star Chapter of Alpha Chi for its activities and programming. Huntington is now one of only five that have received the Star Chapter award every year it was begun in 1996.

Christianne Gates, a junior history major from Hodges, S.C., gave a paper at the convention, titled "Democracy and Diplomacy: American Response to Turkish Activities in the 1890s and 1910s," and was awarded runner-up status for the Region V undergraduate scholarship. Gates and Aaron Eberly, a junior instrumental music education major from Ligonier, Ind., also did a presentation on local chapter programming on Integrity at the National convention, while chapter sponsor Dr. Paul Michelson, distinguished professor of history, chaired the Region V graduate fellowship selection committee.

The Huntington Chapter also made a sweep of Alpha Chi publications this year. Last year's national Benedict Fellowship winner and 2006 alumnus Nate Wood appeared in the Fall 2006 AX Newsletter. A photo of an HU Forum on Integrity in December appeared in the Spring 2007 AX Newsletter. The cover illustration of the Alumni issue of The Alpha Chi Recorder in fall 2006 was of HU's Becker Hall tower, and the undergraduate issue of The Recorder in spring 2007 carried Wood's fellowship-winning paper, "'But I Say Unto You': The Sermon on the Mount and the Problem of Cyclical Violence."
