HU golf takes 3rd at USF Invite

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Huntington golf team registered a third place finish with a score of 598 in its first spring outing at the University of Saint Francis Invitational. While the cold and snow kept HU off the links until this week, the Foresters felt right at home as they played on their home course of Brookwood GC in Fort Wayne.

Tied with Hope College for second with 293 after day one, the Foresters shot a 305 on Saturday to finish third out of 11 teams.

Leading the pack for HU was Rylan Porter who finished third overall with a one-over 145 (70, 75). Ryan Boester (77, 75) and Devin Dale (74, 78) tied for 17th, each carding an eight-over 152. Josh Teulker turned in a 153 (76, 77) good for 22nd while Derek Zurcher rounded out Huntington’s scoring with a 40th place finish score of 161 (73, 88).

Mickey Belt played as an individual and finished with a 153 (76, 77).

Bethel captured the invitational with a 588 followed by Hope (596), HU (598), Madonna (604), Taylor (613), Indiana Tech (625), Calumet (626), Siena Heights (627), Wisconsin Lutheran (635), Saint Francis (636) and Goshen (667).

The Foresters (54-21) have a few days off before heading to Trine University for the A.C. Eddy Spring Classic on Wednesday.
