Schownir Adds Five For 2005-06

Huntington College golf coach Pete Schownir has announced the signing of five recruits for the 2005-2006 academic year.

Spencer Batt, New Haven, IN—a four-year starter at New Haven High School, Batt was the team captain and Most Valuable Player in 2003-2004. He has earned top-five finishes at two Mountain Dew Junior Tour events and placed fourth at the Indy Prep Tour Championship in 2004.

Ryan Bonner, Liberty Center, OH---Bonner earned 1st team Northwest Ohio Athletic League honors in 2003 and 2004 and also qualified for the Ohio High School Athletic Association District tournament as an individual. He was also captain of the golf and basketball teams.

Brad Cripps, Grimsby, Ontario, Canada—a multi-sport athlete, Cripps has played on the Canadian Junior Golf Association Tour and had two top-10 finishes in 2004, including at Glen Abbey GC, site of the Canadian Open. He has played in two national and several regional championships.

Justin Imel, Markle, IN---Imel helped lead Norwell High School to its first ever appearance in the Indiana High School Athletic Association State Championship in 2004. He was also a 1st team Northeast Hoosier Conference. Two of his uncles, Blaine (1979) and Bruce (1987) are Huntington College alumni and both earned All-District Golf honors during their playing days.

Daniel Schroeder, Rockford, IL---a three-year starter at Rockford Christian Life High School, Schroeder earned All-Conference honors and his team qualified for the Illinois High School Association Class A finals each year. In 2004, he ranked 6th in the Illinois Junior Golf Association for his age group and placed third in the Tournament of Champions. He won the Aldeen Rockford Junior Series tournament in 2002 and 2003.

Batt, Bonner, Cripps, and Schroeder are Presidential Scholars at Huntington College, requiring a minimum 3.6 grade point average and either a minimum score of 1250 on the SAT or 28 on the ACT. In addition, both Batt and Imel earned Youth for Christ scholarships, recognizing their efforts as YFC Student Leaders in high school.

“I couldn’t be happier with this year’s recruiting class,” commented Coach Schownir. “These are fine young men, excellent students, and good golfers. I feel they have a chance to do something special in the time they are here.”
