Counts, Caldwell named Forester Athletes of the Week

 Huntington, Ind.— The Huntington College Athletics Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of September 20-26, 2004. Tennis freshman Ashley Counts and men’s soccer senior Luke Caldwell earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.

Ashley Counts, a broadcast communication major from Greenwood, Ind. (Whiteland Community High School), helped lead the Forester tennis team to a 2-1 record last week. Counts was a double winner in the Foresters’ 7-2 win over Defiance College. At #1 singles, she defeated Abby Reichard 6-1, 6-1 and teamed with Jessica Deter for the 8-4 win at #2 doubles. In Huntington’s 7-2 conference win over Spring Arbor University, Counts knocked off Kristen Perry 6-3, 6-4 in singles. The Foresters are currently 4-6 on the season and travel to Marian College for their next match on Tuesday, September 28, at 3:00 p.m.

Luke Caldwell, a sociology major from Mansfield, Ohio (Mansfield Christian High School), continued his solid season in the Foresters’ conference opener, the only match of the week. He scored a goal and dished out an assist in the 4-3 loss to the University of St. Francis. Caldwell has a total of five goals and four assists on the season. The 4-4 Foresters next host Spring Arbor University on Wednesday, September 29, at 4:00 p.m.

The Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past seven years, Huntington has produced 49 NAIA All-American honors and 91 All-American Scholar Athlete honors.
