HU wraps up season with 8-1 win over Trine

HUNTINGTON, Ind. - It was a fitting way to end the season as the Forester men’s tennis team dominated Trine University 8-1 Monday night at Klopfenstein Courts with HU seniors, Augusto Velez, Martin Vivas, Jonathan Brenneman and Jameel Brenneman, ending their collegiate career on a win.

Huntington wasted no time taking control of the match by sweeping doubles play to jump out to an early 3-0 advantage and then secured five wins in singles action to cruise to their sixth win of the year. HU’s top three singles spots swept the Thunder in straight sets while the last three spots proved to be a battle to the end.

Martin Vivas outlasted Joey Clark 6-3, 1-6, 10-8 at the No. 4 spot. After dropping his first set, Steve Blinco (No. 5) rallied from behind to steal a three-set win from Nick Ihrie. Zakk Sparks grabbed the first set from Zach Richardson but couldn’t hang for the win as the Richardson claimed Trine’s lone win at No. 6 singles.

The Foresters wrap up the season with a 6-9 record.
