Vivas brothers named Forester Athletes of Week

Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 12-18. Brothers and tennis standouts senior Gonzalo Vivas and sophomore Martin Vivas earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.

Both from Lima, Peru, Gonzalo is a business management major, and Martin is a computer science major.

Heading into the MCC Conference Tournament this past weekend, the Vivas brothers were looking to defend their 2008 MCC #1 Doubles Tournament Champion title. As the sixth seed, they knocked off three-seeded Goshen 8-6 in the opening round. The brothers went on to upend two-seeded Grace 8-4 in semifinals play. In the championship round, the Vivas duo outlasted fourth-seeded Indiana Wesleyan 8-5 to become the 2009 MCC #1 Doubles Tournament Champs for the second straight year.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past eleven years, Huntington has produced 64 NAIA All-America honors and 158 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
