On day two of their spring break trip to Pensacola, the Forester softball
team went 1-1 on the day, beating William Jewell 4-3 and then falling to the University of West Florida 11-2.
In the rubber match from yesterday's games, the Cardinals struck first with a run in the opening inning but the Foresters responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the 2-1 lead. Aubrey Garner's single to right-center started things off for HU. Katie Bowers singled to advance Garner to third and then a shot to right by Kate Dwyer drove in Garner for the Foresters' first run. Bowers then tagged up when Brita Kuiper popped up to record HU's second run of the inning.
The Foresters added another run in the bottom of the fifth when Werling singled to right, advanced to second on a stolen base and scored off a Garner single. HU added another run in the sixth to push their lead to 4-1 but the Cardinals kept things interesting as they scored two runs on three hits and one HU error before the Foresters finally made the necessary plays to record the third out and keep William Jewell at bay.
Molly Long went the distance to record her second win of the season. She allowed three runs, one earned, on eight hits and no walks while striking out nine. Garner and Dwyer each finished with two hits to lead HU at the plate.
In the night cap against the University of West Florida, the Argos recorded four hits and took advantage of five HU errors in the first inning to jump to the quick 6-0 lead. They went to score another run in the second before the Foresters finally got on the board in the third. West Florida continued to pound the ball scoring three more runs in the bottom of the third and adding another in the fourth. The Foresters would get one back in the fifth but it wouldn't be enough as the Argos cruised to the 11-2 victory.
Stacie Rawnsley took the loss for the Foresters. She gave up ten runs, four earned, on nine hits and two walks while striking out three. No one had more than one hit for the Foresters in the game.
