HU swept by Indiana Wesleyan

The Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats swept the Foresters in a MCC doubleheader. HU dropped the first game 6-4 and then had no answer for the Wildcats' 21 hits in the 17-2 loss in game two.

After scoring a run in the top of the first, Indiana Wesleyan added four more in the second to take command of game one. The Wildcats combined a double and two singles with an HU error to go up 5-0. The Foresters got one back on a solo shot to center from pitcher Lauren Ward. HU got a Brittany Gower single and a two-out April Snider double to score another run in the third.

The Wildcats made it 6-2 with a run in the fifth, but HU continued to chip away at the deficit. Two singles and a RBI double by Ward plated another run for the Foresters in the sixth to make it 6-3 heading into the final inning of play. Ward shutdown Indiana Wesleyan in the top of the seventh and then HU made one more rally attempt. Kendra Stahl hit a one-out double to left-center and then scored on an Ashley Scally double to center. Unfortunately the rally ended there as IWU got Snider and Keri Badenhop to fly out to end the game.

With both teams having 10 hits in the game, it was HU's two errors which led to two unearned runs that were the difference in the game. Stahl collected three hits in the game to pace the Foresters and Ward finished with two hits and two RBI. Ward also took the loss for HU. She allowed six runs on 10 hits and she struck out six in seven innings of work.

Although it was 1-1 after two innings of play in the second game, it was all Wildcats after that. Indiana Wesleyan scored eight runs on seven hits, including two homeruns, in the third inning and then added three more runs in the four and a five-spot in the fifth. The Foresters got one across in the fifth, but it was too little too late.

Rebekah Gumbiner, who came on in relief of Ashley Scally in the third, took the loss for HU. She gave up eight runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out one.

The two losses drop the Foresters to 8-16 on the season and 4-6 in the MCC.
