Huntington disposes of Siena Heights

Behind the hot bats of Kate Dwyer, the Forester softball team (6-8) cruised to a 8-3 win over the Saints in game one before blanking them in the second game 8-0.

Trailing by two after the Saints' first at-bats, the Foresters responded with three runs in the bottom of their frame ignited by Aubrey Garner's inside-the-park homer to deep center. The Foresters then pushed two more runs across the plate to take the 3-2 lead.

The Foresters went to work again in the third collecting five hits and taking advantage of a Saint error to score three more runs, extending their lead to 6-2. HU came up with two more insurance runs in the fourth behind RBI singles from Bowers and Dwyer to secure the win.

Molly Long pitched the complete game for HU, giving up three runs, two earned, on three hits and five walks while striking out eleven. Dwyer lead the way at the plate collecting three hits while Garner and Brita Kuiper each chipped in two.

In game two of the doubleheader, the Foresters picked up where they left off at the plate, scoring eight runs in the first inning on six hits and three Saint miscues. Bowers started the scoring rampage by knocking in two runners with her double to left and after scoring four more runs on four hits, a walk and a Saint error, Garner finished things off with a single to right that drove in two more runs to close out the inning.

It was a quiet final four innings as neither team scored but the Foresters got more than enough in their first at-bats to cruise to the 8-0 victory.

Stacie Rawnsley picked up her first win of the season by holding the Saints scoreless, allowing three hits while striking out two.
