MANCHESTER, Ind. - The HU track and field teams competed at Manchester College Thursday afternoon and brought home seven top finishes.
Leading the way for the men was Logan Knox who scored points in three different field events. He brought home a top finish in the hammer throw with a PR toss of 143’06 which bumps him into the No. 6 spot in the HU record books. He also won shot put with a winning throw of 42’08.50 and came in second in discus with his toss of 125’05.
Two other Forester throwers turned in solid performances on the day. Bryan Myers registered a personal best toss of 136’10.50 in the hammer good for second place and the ninth best throw in HU history. He also finished fourth in discus (114-01.25). Lukas Knox locked in third place in discus (120’10.25) and fourth in hammer (116’00.75).
Alec Rosario was the only other Forester to pick up a first place finish. He won the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 10:08.03.
HU grabbed second and fourth place in triple jump. Todd Fiedler finished second (43’08) while Grant Fitzgerald came in fourth (37’11.50). Fitzgerald also added a second place finish in long jump with a leap of 19’06.50.
Scott Skiles paced the Huntington sprinters with a third place finish in the 200 meter dash (23.07) and a fifth place finish in the 100 meter dash (11.41).
Nathan Rupp and Brian Menzie finished in the top five in the 5,000 meter run with Rupp coming in fourth (16:38.39) and Menzie right behind in fifth (16:38.78).
Other point-getters for the men included Sean Sewell in the 400 meter dash (6th, 53.34), Brian Menzie in the 1500 meter run (5th, 4:11.97), Volodymy Budnichenko in the 400 meter hurdles (5th, 1:01.11), Alan Huffman in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (4th, 11:21.78) and Luke Batdorff in the discus (6th, 112’10.25).
Manchester captured the men’s title with 184 points following by Spring Arbor (150.33), HU (110), Grace (99.33) and Saint Francis (29.33).
On the women’s side, Racquel Service dominated sprints with wins in the 100 meter dash (12.79) and the 200 meter dash (27.29).
Gretchen Spahr ran to a first place finish in the 5,000 meter run by crossing the line in a new PR of 18:25.17.
Kelsey Green crushed the competition in discus. Her winning toss of 128’11 was over 25 feet farther than the second place finisher. She also set a new PR of 123’04.25 in the hammer throw to not only finish third but also register the fourth longest throw in Forester history. She rounded her day’s performance with a fifth place finish in shot put (32’04.50).
Mariah Town logged two third place finishes in long jump (14’11.50) and triple jump (28’04.75). Cendall Ogle finished second in the 1500 meter run in 5:00.84 with teammate Erin Rockey not far behind in fourth in 5:02.59.
Other top six finishers for the women included Cendall Ogle in the 800 meter run (6th, 2:29.08), Holly Lutton in the 100 meter hurdles (4th, 17.49), Lindsay Schroeder and Heather Johnson tied in pole vault (4th, 9’06) and Ashley Williams in shot put (3rd, 33’01.50).
Grace topped the women with 182.50 points followed by Spring Arbor (159), HU (102), Manchester (75) and Saint Francis (23.50).
The Foresters are back in action this weekend to compete in the Indiana Little State Championships in Indianapolis, Ind.
