Upland, Ind. - Playing the No. 13 team in the country is no easy task as the HU volleyball team learned Wednesday night when they lost in straight sets to the Trojans of Taylor University, 25-11, 25-23, 25-17.
After a lopsided first set, it looked like an upset-in-the-making as the Foresters stormed back to take a 23-19 lead in the second set but couldn’t hold on as the Trojans reeled off the next six points to reclaim the set and momentum. Taylor jumped out to an early 12-3 lead in the final set but a feisty Forester squad rallied back to pull with five at 12-7 but they would get no closer as the Trojans cruised to the win to remain unblemished in conference play.
Rebekah Brown and Brittany Rooze tag teamed at the net to account for 15 of the Foresters’ 29 kills recording seven and eight respectively. Brown also tallied a team-high seven digs. Melissa Grossman finished with four kills and just as many serving aces. Jensen Carnahan dished out 26 assists.
With this loss, the Foresters drop to 6-22 overall, 1-16 in the MCC. They host IUSB and Roosevelt University in a three-way this weekend.
