HU 2-2 at Michigan Dearborn

 After winning their first two matches on Friday at the University of Michigan Dearborn Tournament, the Foresters dropped two close ones on Saturday to go 2-2 on the weekend.

After having a 10-day layoff between contests, HU looked a little sluggish in their opening match. They needed five games to finally put away Siena Heights University 30-23, 30-32, 28-30, 30-17, 15-11. Natalie Villwock and Brittney Smelser each had 19 kills and a block to lead the Forester attack. Smelser also added a career-high 12 aces. Alyssa Schroeder finished with 53 assists and Stephanie Stearns had 28 digs.

In their second match, HU put together a couple of timely runs to down the host Wolves 30-19, 26-30, 30-21, 31-29. Villwock and Smelser again led the Foresters at the net with 15 kills apiece. Smelser also added five aces and 24 digs. Kayley Cervenka had five blocks. Schroeder dished out 44 assists and Stearns had a team-high 41 digs.

On Saturday, HU dropped a close one to Concordia University 30-21, 29-31, 17-30, 29-31. Although the Foresters won game one, they committed too many mistakes in the final three games which led to their demise. Villwock and Smelser continued to post identical statistics at the net with 13 kills each. Villwock also had a team-leading three blocks while Smelser chipped in six aces and 18 digs. Stearns dug 29 balls and Schroeder finished with 39 assists.

In their final match of the tournament, HU had a re-match with the host Wolves. This time UMD outlasted the Foresters for the 29-31, 30-28, 25-30, 30-16, 15-8 win. HU struggled offensively committing 38 hitting errors while recording just 51 kills in 205 attempts for a .006 hitting percentage.

Cervenka had a team-high 13 kills and added two blocks. Amanda Meyers led the team with three blocks. Smelser had 12 kills, eight aces and 19 digs. Schroeder had 43 assists and Stearns had a team-leading 31 digs.

The Foresters now stand at 14-5 on the season.
