Amidst the chilly and windy weather conditions, the Foresters (8-3) traveled to South Bend and handed the Titans of IU South Bend (10-3) their first home loss with a thrilling 56-53 victory.
Huntington found their groove early in the game jumping out to a quick 6-0 lead but IU South Bend tightened their defensive reigns holding the Foresters to 19.2% shooting for the rest of the half. The Titans took advantage of the Foresters' shooting woes by closing out the first stanza with a 12-2 run to take a 29-25 lead into the locker room.
IU South Bend pushed their lead to 37-28 seven minutes into the second half but after an HU timeout, the Foresters' defense showed up to hold the Titans to 16 points for the remaining 13 minutes of play. Jenna Donaldson scored HU's next five points to spur a 19-2 run giving the Foresters a 47-39 lead at the 4:00 mark.
In the closing minutes, the Foresters connected on 9-for-11 free throws to squelch any last minute heroics by the Titans. HU committed 13 turnovers while forcing IU South Bend into 23 miscues. The Foresters outrebounded the Titans 34-32.
Donaldson led all scorers with 19 points. Courtney Beerbower finished with 11 points and eight rebounds. The Titans were led by Lizzie Stapke with 16 points. Katie Hacker chipped in 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
