HU steals road win at Goshen

Playing with a full roster for the first time in over a month, the Forester women's basketball team (11-7, 3-3) shot 51 percent for the game to grab a 75-64 win over the Maple Leafs of Goshen College (4-16, 0-6).

After managing only three field goals and committing four turnovers in the first eight minutes of play, the Foresters got a much-needed lift from their bench turning a seven-point deficit into a two-point lead. Pazia Speed and Amy Kramer got things rolling as they combined to score HU's next nine points and then Allison Green went to work knocking down back-to-back threes to put the Foresters up by two, 23-21, with just over six minutes left in the half. Huntington continued to feed off this energy and a small run capped off with a penetrating layup by Lauren Meese gave HU their largest lead of the half at 34-27 with just over a minute remaining.

It was another slow start to the second half as the Maple Leafs trimmed the lead to 36-35 within the first two minutes of play but in typical HU fashion, the Foresters didn't get rattled. Meese knocked down her third trey of the night and connected on two freebies to fuel a 13-6 run that pushed HU's lead to 49-41 with 13:40 on the clock. The Maple Leafs cut it to four midway through the half but the Foresters again quickly responded with a 7-2 run over the next two minutes to climb the lead back to nine. Up by five with under two minutes remaining and the shot clock winding down, Meese's friendly roll on a three proved to be the final dagger as the Foresters enjoyed a 72-64 lead and closed out the game by going 3-for-4 from the free throw line to seal the win.

Meese was perfect from the field and drained 7-of-8 free throws to finish with a game-high 25 points. Kelsey Green chipped in 15 points and grabbed a game-high nine boards. Allison Greene came off the bench to score 14 points. Cassie Grieves scored 16 second half points to finish with 18 points. Erica Yost was the only other Maple Leaf in double digits with 16.

Huntington is back in action on Saturday when they host Spring Arbor University at 1:00 p.m.
