HU takes down Trojans

In a hard fought battle, the visiting HU women's basketball team (2-0) took down the Trojans of Trinity International University 75-57 on Saturday afternoon.

It was obvious from opening tip-off that the Trojans were hoping to wear down the Foresters with their scrappy and aggressive style of play but HU would have none of it. A jumper in the lane by Taylor Foley at the 17:10 mark gave Huntington a lead they would never give up. The Foresters stuck to their game plan and slowly pulled away behind Kelsey Green's nine points and seven boards to build a 15-point lead, 36-21, by halftime.

The Trojans came out of the locker room fired up as they forced four Forester miscues while scoring nine points to cut the lead to six, 36-30, after three minutes of play. The Forester responded with a 9-1 run capped off with a long trey by Lauren Meese at the 14:27 mark to push HU's lead to 45-31. Both teams played even over the next eight minutes but a 90-second scoring binge led by Sarah Miller's seven points gave HU their biggest lead of the night, 68-43, with 4:43 on the clock. The Trojans trimmed the lead to 13 with just over a minute to play but the Foresters went 5-for-7 from the line down the stretch to seal the win.

The Foresters dominated the boards 41-29. HU connected on 42.1 percent of their field goals while holding Trinity to 39.6 percent shooting.

Miller led the Foresters with 14 points and three assists. Green finished with 12 points and game-high nine rebounds. Meese and Allison Greene each chipped in 11 points. Trinity's Chamissa Anderson led all scorers with 16 points. Also scoring in double digits for the Fighting Saints were Reanna Perera with 11 and Melanie Duplessis with 10.
