The NAIA Division II top-ranked Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats remained unbeaten on the season at 28-0 with their 68-49 win over Huntington University (14-10).
The Foresters hung with Indiana Wesleyan early and were up 9-8 four minutes into the game when the Wildcats put a 10-0 run together to take control of the game. Indiana Wesleyan tightened up its defense and increased the margin to as many as 15 before taking a 36-23 lead at intermission.
The two teams traded baskets over the first seven minutes of the second half with Huntington down 46-35 at the 13:19 mark. The Foresters had a chance to cut the deficit to single digits on a Jenna Donaldson jumper at the 12:52 mark, but the shot came up short. Indiana Wesleyan’s Liz Howerth then took over the game, scoring six consecutive points to give the Wildcats a 52-35 lead and the momentum. Indiana Wesleyan then pushed the lead to 20 over the next three minutes and kept it there the remainder of the game.
Wesleyan’s Howerth topped all scorers in the game with 28 points on 12-16 shooting and Sarah McGill added 10. Amy Berry led Huntington with 14 points and Jena Donaldson finished with 12 points and a game-high seven rebounds. The Wildcats out-rebounded Huntington 29-26 and shot 55% from the field to just 41% for the Foresters.
