New, Ewing and Brown competing in Indiana Youth Masters and Queens Finals

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Three members of the Huntington University bowling team will be competing in the 2014 Indiana Youth Masters and Queens Tournament finals later this month.

Shelby New and Brooke Ewing will compete in the Queens finals and Connor Brown will compete in the Masters finals slated for May 31-June 1, at Hindel Lanes in Indianapolis. The top 16 men and women youth bowlers from around the state, who qualified during the Indiana Youth State Tournament, will compete in Indiana’s premier youth tournament.

Qualifications were held each weekend from February through May at Vigo Bowl in Terra Haute. Each bowler rolled six games on the challenging Autobahn sport condition, moving to a different pair of lanes after three games.

New qualified 4th in Queens with a six game total of 1,188 (198 average) while Ewing qualified for the 16th and final spot on the final qualifying weekend with 1,098 (183 average). On the men’s side, Brown qualified 9th with 1,261 (210.2 average).

On Saturday and Sunday all bowlers will bowl 16 head to head one game matches against every other bowler, with the winner of each match getting bonus pins for the win. The top bowlers based on total score and bonus pins will compete in a stepladder final on Sunday to determine the 2014 Masters and Queens tournament champions.

This will be New’s fourth time in the Queens finals. She finished 3rd in 2013, 8th in 2012 and 6th in 2011. Ewing will be making her third appearance after finishing 13th in 2013 and 7th in 2012. This will be Brown’s first appearance in the Masters finals.

By qualifying for the Masters and Queens finals, all three will have the honor of also representing the Indiana All-Stars when the compete against the Kentucky All-Stars on June 21, in Louisville, Ky,
