Duchane chooses Huntington

Lakeland Christian Academy standout, Jamie Duchane, has signed her national letter of intent to continue her education and soccer career at Huntington University.

After spending the first two years of her high school career as the starting striker on the girls' team, Duchane found herself teamless as LCA cancelled the girls' soccer program. She decided to try-out for the boy’s team and landed herself in the starting line-up as a striker. Her success on the field earned her Second Team All-Conference honors and also helped her team win the 2009 Indiana Christian Schools State Tournament.

During the spring and summer Duchane plays for the Warsaw Wave where she led her team to the semi-finals of the Indiana Challenge Cup in 2007. As a track athlete, Duchane was named Most Outstanding Female Athlete at the National Christian Athletic Association Track and Field Championships.

In addition to her stellar athletic career, Duchane has also excelled off the field. At LCA Duchane was elected as the Hoosier Girls State Delegate, inducted in the National Honor Society, elected as the class treasurer, participated on the student worship arts team and served as the student body vice president, all while being ranked third academically in her class. She is also actively involved at Sweetwater Assembly of God, where she is a member of Elevate Youth Ministry and youth drama team.

"The people at HU are amazing and the Christ-centered community made me feel like I will be able to grow in my faith," said Duchane, a Mathematics Education major. "I’m excited about beginning college and preparing to be a math teacher. I look forward to improving as a soccer player and helping the team reach their goals. I’m also planning to run track.”

“I’m very excited about Jamie joining our family here at HU. I coached Jamie when she was 16 and knew that she was special then,” said Coach Ryan Burgher. “I am expecting Jamie to contribute right away. She is a strong and fast player who can hit the ball with power and accuracy. I’m most excited about how courageous she is in the air around the goal. She is going to bring another aspect to the attack that we haven’t had in the past.”

Jamie is the daughter of Kim and Rita Duchane.
