Rochester College silenced the Homecoming crowd with two goals in the first 12 minutes of play, but HU re-grouped and scored five unanswered goals, four or which came in the second half, to pick up the 5-2 win.
After their poor start, the Foresters started to get things going when Sarah Kaufman found an open Mindy Perry inside the penalty area to draw a goal back in the 22nd minute. Despite a few other opportunities, that was all the offense the Foresters could muster and went into the break trailing 2-1.
In the second half the Foresters quickly found the equalizer in the 49th minute when Bethany Lewis crossed the ball into the box and Shannon Holly hit a glancing header that found the net just inside the far post. HU then took the lead when Perry crossed into the box where Kaufman hit a driving header for the third Forester goal in the 54th minute. Perry once again tallied an assist when she fed Holly just three minutes later to make the score 4-2. Kaufman struck the final tally in the 67th minute for a 5-2 final.
“We had another slow start today but I was very pleased with the second half," said Coach Datema. "Our defense shut down the Rochester attack and our forwards were able to finish. Shannon Holly had a great game. Not only did she score two great goals but she was a constant threat throughout the game.”
Huntington now stands at 4-6 on the year.
