Huntington, Ind.—The 2004 Huntington College Music Department will present an opera workshop, The Old Maid and the Thief. An often hilarious, but mostly heart-wrenching story of an old woman’s propriety, a young woman’s fantasy and the audacity of a criminal mind will open on Thursday, October 14, at 7:30 p.m., in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. Admission is $2.00 and the public is cordially invited to attend.
Originally conceived as a radio opera, The Old Maid and the Thief was written by American composer Gian-Carlo Menotti. The cast for this Huntington Area Lyric Opera production will include Dana Frick, a junior vocal performance major from Kendallville, Ind., as Miss Todd, the old maid; Maria Rhodes, a junior music education and performance major from Celina, Ohio, as Laetitia, the servant; Lori Merkle, a senior elementary education major from Walton, Ky., as Miss Pinkerton, the neighbor; and Dr. John Thompson, Huntington College instructor of applied Voice and opera workshop, as Bob, the thief.
