Hopper, Reed present senior art show

Huntington, Ind.— The Robert E. Wilson Gallery of the Merillat Centre for the Arts at Huntington College presents “This Mortal Coil,” a senior art show featuring works of HC students, Jordan Hopper and Nathaniel Reed. The show will run from May 6-18, 2002. An artists’ reception will be held on Saturday, May 11, from 6-8 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend. Admission is free and the gallery is open to the public weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and before all Merillat Centre performances.

Jordan Hopper, a senior from Huntington, Indiana, will be completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education. Her works include printmaking and large expressionistic charcoal drawings featuring the human figure. Hopper states, "The body is a complex machine, intricately crafted, beautifully wrapped - creating constant questions in my mind that drives me to immortalize it on paper. And the basis of this show is to communicate with those forms so as to evoke an emotion."

Nathaniel J. Reed, a senior from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, will complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design this May. His works featured in this exhibit include paintings, two large lighted multimedia designs and a virtual 3D display. Reed states, "As an artist I am both a fine artist in the traditional sense as well as a more contemporary counterpart, a graphic designer. I feel the diversity of knowledge acquired through these seemingly separate disciplines and their disparity offers me a wide variety of tools from which to pursue my artistic visions in greater totality."
