Huntington students to present senior art exhibit

FOR RELEASE
2007-04-27
Huntington, Ind.—Daron Short and Gregory Wardwell, visual arts majors at Huntington University, will show their capstone achievements in graphic design during their senior exhibit.

The exhibition will take place at the Robert E. Wilson Gallery from April 30 through May 11 with a reception May 5 from 6 to 8 pm. Each senior will show two pieces that are a visual representation of what they have learned during their time at Huntington University.

The senior exhibit, with the theme “Abandoned Beauty,” will include Short’s three-part digital photo series.

“I wanted to explore abandoned locations that are seemingly unattractive and bring out a beauty to the viewers who would not think to explore these locations themselves,” Short said.

Short also will display his graphic design skills through establishing a business identity for the company Bungalows Today. This exhibit shows the marketing strategies for small businesses including logo development and Web site design.

Also showing will be a 22-page comic by Wardwell, about which he said, “This project was a reconnection with the genre that first inspired my interest in art.”

The second project by Wardwell, a fully-functional Web site for Auction Solutions International, will demonstrate his technical as well as conceptual skills in web design. It is an exploration of the balance between functional and aesthetic design.

Short of Franklin, Ind., is the son of David and Kim Short. He will receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in graphic design this May.

Wardwell of Beech Grove, Ind., is the son of Dan and Christine Wardwell. Wardwell will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in graphic design this May.

The Robert E. Wilson Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and before all Merillat Centre for the Arts performances. The senior exhibit is free and open to the public. For more information, call gallery director Rebecca Coffman at (260) 359-4272.
