A Brief Guide to Our Minor Programs
Adding a minor is a fantastic way to diversify your skillset and attract the attention of potential employers. However, with so many options, it can be difficult to decide what to minor in. So, here are brief summaries for programs offered as minors at Huntington University.
Broadcasting – Recommended for journalism, sport management, or television production majors.
- Gain a deeper understanding of the business and equipment in broadcasting. In addition to classroom learning, the Forester Digital Network will provide you with opportunities to get hands-on experience in live events.
Cybersecurity – Recommended for computer science, criminal justice, or business majors.
- Develop proficiency in computer science, networking, and security principles. This program includes participating in lab scenarios using industry-level training resources from TestOut. A specialist in preventing cyberattacks is a valuable asset to any company.
Exercise Science – Recommended for exercise and movement science, exercise science and nutrition, pre-athletic training, and occupational therapy assistant majors.
- Study anatomy, exercise training, and the physiological, psychological, and social aspects of exercise and sport, including competitive and recreational athletics, physical education, and rehabilitative activity. Curriculum information can be found here.
Forensic Accounting – Recommended for accounting, business, computer science, or criminal justice majors.
- Learn accounting and investigative skills to uncover and prevent fraud, embezzlement, and more. Study the ins and outs of accounting and evidence management, review historical case studies, and discuss legal and ethical issues. Forensic Science – Recommended for criminal justice, biology, or chemistry majors.
- Study the operations of the human body and law enforcement and apply this knowledge in scientific tests for hands-on experience.
Legal Studies – Recommended for criminal justice, pre-law, business, and history and political science majors.
- Gain a greater understanding of the American legal system and strengthen your skills in debate.
Museum Studies – Recommended for art, history, or political science majors.
- Combine your passions for history and art. Completion of this minor requires internship experience in one of three local museums.
Non-Western Studies – Recommended for art, Bible and theology, biology, history, political science, language, ministry, missions, nursing, occupational therapy assistant, philosophy, psychology, social work, or sociology majors.
- Broaden your understanding of cultures outside the United States. This minor pairs well with practically every major.
Nutrition – Recommended for exercise and movement science, pre-athletic training, or biology majors.
- Study healthy living not just to make better choices for your own health and wellness but also to help others do the same.
Production Technology – Recommended for theatre arts, computer science, digital media arts, or music majors.
- Gain experience with stage lighting, sound design, stage construction, and video equipment.
Refugee Studies – Recommended for political science, history, and sociology majors.
- Engage in topics like human rights, political advocacy, ethnic identity, religious and social conflict, migration, and asylum policies.
Screenwriting – Recommended for digital media arts, English, and theatre arts majors.
- Develop your own characters and stories as well as bring them to life on the page and screen. A minor in screenwriting complements any major involved with storytelling.
Spanish – Recommended for literature, writing, or communication majors.
- Develop your speech and writing skills and study Hispanic culture, civilization, and literature. You will also have the opportunity to spend a required semester in Spain. Proficiency in another language opens a whole world of opportunities for you, in both your career and community.
Theatre Arts – Recommended for theatre majors.
- Deepen your understanding of the theatre arts, with heavy emphasis on observation, analysis, and communication. Whether you want to work on stage or backstage, this minor benefits anyone involved in the performing arts.
Urban Studies – Recommended for criminal justice, political science, social work, psychology, or sociology majors.
- Study cities and the issues they face with the freedom to integrate your minor into your major field of interest.
