Keirsh Cochran
Keirsh Cochran is the chief of campus police for the Huntington University Police Department and Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice. He is responsible for the safety of those on campus, working with administration to solve safety-related issues on campus and overseeing the officers who work for the Huntington University Police Department(HUPD). He is also responsible for building positive relationships between the HUPD and the campus community.
Keirsh is also the primary professor in the criminal justice department. During his time, Keirsh has developed the HU Criminal Justice program into a state-of-the-art practical program with live fire simulators, mock crime scenes, traffic stops, and tabletop exercises all making up the curriculum.
Keirsh is an HU alumnus with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast media; he also holds a Master of Public Administration degree and a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice Leadership. Before returning to his alma mater Keirsh worked for the Fort Wayne Tincaps and NBC33 and spent four years as a patrolman for the Fort Wayne Police Department on the south side of Fort Wayne. The Fort Wayne Police Department awarded him a meritorious service citation in 2017, and Huntington University awarded him the 2019 Young Alumnus Award.
Keirsh is also well respected in his field earning a 40 under 40 distinction and providing keynote addresses to national conferences. He is also an event security expert, providing uniformed security presence at events like the Taylor Swift Eras Tour, B1G Championship game, College Football Playoff, and many other professional sporting events and concerts.
Keirsh is originally from Franklin, Indiana, but now calls Huntington University home. He is a third-generation police officer, with his father currently serving as a police chief in Franklin, Indiana. His favorite memory from his days at HU is missing class only to have Dr. Miller bring the class to his residence hall room, lecturing while Keirsh’s classmates sat around the room and took notes. Keirsh is an avid hiker and has climbed three of the tallest mountains over 14,000 feet; he also boasts the distinction of being at game seven when the Cubs won the World Series. His favorite pastimes besides hiking include rooting for the New York Yankees or the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
