College announces 0% tuition increase for 2005-06

Huntington, Ind. "Huntington College students received an early Christmas gift this week. College officials today announced that the Board of Trustees has approved a 0% tuition increase for 2005-2006. Essentially, a good buy got even better, said Dr. Blair Dowden, president. Huntington is already recognized as a high-value institution, with a competitive price for high quality academic programs. As Huntington College prepares to become Huntington University in mid-2005, we are holding the line on tuition to make our programs even more affordable for a greater number of students.
Many Huntington College students are already accustomed to flat-line tuition rates. The institution offers the Huntington Plan, a unique tuition-freeze program. The Huntington Plan helps students and their families save money by locking tuition rates early in the student's academic career. Dowden said that the Board has agreed to continue the tuition-freeze plan and the guaranteed savings will still be available for those already enrolled in this program.
Annual tuition at the private, Christian, liberal arts college is currently $18,060. Huntington tuition and fees rank nineteenth of the 32 independent colleges and universities in Indiana. Across the United States, the average tuition at four-year private institutions this year is $20,082, reflecting an average increase of 6% over 2003-04.
Approximately 90% of Huntington College students receive financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants, loans or work-study assistance.
Private colleges like Huntington are not just for wealthy families, said Jeff Berggren, vice president for enrollment management and marketing. In fact, 40% of Huntington College freshmen report a combined annual household income under $50,000. Our financial aid programs and the Huntington Plan help keep Huntington within reach.
Students agree. Results of the Student Satisfaction Inventory " a national survey of college students " indicate that Huntington College students are more satisfied with the institution's price and financial aid than students at many other public and private universities around the country.
