College Enrollment Swells

HUNTINGTON, IN: SEPTEMBER 20, 1996 --- Huntington College broke enrollment records for the third consecutive year this fall. Seven-hundred forty-five students are pursuing their education at the Christian liberal arts school, up 2.6% from last year and nearly 17% over 1994's record enrollment.

Most of the growth has occurred in Huntington's traditional niche market. There are now 645 typical undergraduates on campus, up about 4% from last year's record setting figure. The incoming Class of 2000 included 176 first-time freshmen. In addition, the Huntington student body includes 49 adult students seeking bachelor's degrees through the EXCEL program and 51 graduate students enrolled in the School of Christian Ministries.

A third year of record-breaking enrollment is a fitting way for Huntington College to begin its centennial year. College officials have announced plans to increase the student body to 1,000 by the turn of the decade.

Jeff Berggren, Executive director of admissions and financial aid, attributes Huntington's steady growth to strategic marketing and improved retention. "We are very pleased that an increasing number of students are seeking the kind of high-quality, values-centered Christian education we offer," said Berggren.

Huntington College was founded in 1897 by the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. For 100 years, Huntington College has offered high-quality academic programs "to equip men and women to impact our world for Christ." Located on a contemporary, wooded campus in Huntington, Indiana, the four-year liberal arts college offers graduate and undergraduate programs in nearly 50 fields of study.
