Eilers Releases New Book Entitled ‘Sanctification and the Life of Faith’
Book explores the doctrine of sanctification
HUNTINGTON, Ind. — Dr. Kent Eilers, professor of theology, has published a new book — the sixth book he has written — with Baker Academic, entitled Sanctification and the Life of Faith. The book was released on October 20 and was co-authored with Dr. Kyle C. Strobel, director of Talbot’s Institute of Spiritual Formation.
Sanctification and the Life of Faith is a substantive, theological engagement with Christian teaching about the Christian life (“sanctification”). The book includes chapters on the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds, the interpretation of Scripture and the history of Christian teaching about sanctification. Eilers and his co-author also offer a fresh formulation of sanctification and explore its practical outworking.
The book also models how Christians can integrate theology into their life of faith, and how theological reasoning is part of Christian worship. Each chapter opens with an interlude using works of visual art to invite readers into the book’s animating themes: God’s presence and hospitality and the interplay of divine and creaturely holiness. To help readers engage complicated topics, the book also includes informative sidebars and chapter summaries.
“In this book, my co-author and I offer a fresh portrayal of sanctification that orients everything around the transformative presence of God,” Eilers said. “Sanctification is, we try to show, life in the presence of God, for the presence of God.”
Sanctification and the Life of Faith is the fourth book in a series with Baker Academic that Eilers and Strobel created and co-edit: “Soteriology and Doxology.” Books in this series offer theological interpretations of key topics related to Christian teaching about God, salvation and the Christian life.
Huntington University will host a Q&A press conference with Eilers about the book on November 12 at 4:00 p.m. in the University’s Hiner Hall. Copies of the book can be purchased on bakeracademic.com.
