Goetz named Staff Member of the Year

Huntington, Ind.-Julie Goetz, coordinator of online education, has been named Huntington University's 2010 Staff Member of the Year. Earlier this month, Dr. Tim Smith, assistant professor of history, was named the 2010 Professor of the Year.

Goetz, who has been employed by the university for four years, was nominated by faculty and staff for the award and was selected by the university's senior administrators. She was recognized for the award during the annual Celebration of Service banquet on May 10.

In comments read by President G. Blair Dowden, colleagues said that Goetz is diligent, a hard worker and dependable in her position at the university.

"Truly a servant of the Lord, this staff member has a positive attitude, is an encourager and supportive of others, puts others first and exudes a Christ-like attitude in everything," one comment said.

As coordinator of the online programs, Goetz works with the Master of Arts in Youth Ministry Leadership program - a hybrid program involving online and classroom instruction. In addition, she coordinates the online degree programs for the university's EXCEL Adult Degree Programs.

Before coming to Huntington, Goetz taught computer classes to teachers through the Region 8 Education Service Center for 11 years.
