FOR RELEASE: Tuesday, August 27, 2002
Huntington, Ind. " The Robert E. Wilson Gallery of the Merillat Centre for the Arts at Huntington College is pleased to present a Huntington College Alumni Exhibit, featuring the works of Carl Ludwig Peters, III, from September 9-October 7. Admission is free and the gallery is open to the public weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and before all Merillat Centre performances. An artist's reception and gallery talk will be offered Thursday, September 19, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend.
Peters' exhibit will include photography and painting in a variety of compositions. Peters lives in Indianapolis and is an avid painter and photographer. His work has been exhibited in various venues throughout Indianapolis and Fort Wayne. Peters does advertising and web design for a local ad agency.
Art is a release that defines moments and emotions, said Peters. I am very inconsistent when it comes to style or subject matter. I don't have the patience to create a common series. The mood of my work is the only categorical theme throughout my pieces. It is important for me to expound my spirit through a variety of approaches. Some compositions are calculated and realized prior to the first brush stroke while others evolve through layers.
The intended goal throughout my nonobjective works is a sense of inexhaustibility from the beginning through the end, continued Peters. There is a certain, sort of awkward, discipline it takes to know when to stop. I usually realize, right away, the boundaries and what is to be accomplished. This is not the case when I'm producing objective paintings or taking photographs. I've always appreciated the skill it takes to render anything tangible. Discipline is everything. There are no real shortcuts. No matter what is accomplished -there is always a better picture of it in my head. Art is my calling. It is my lifeblood.
