Huntington University partners with Council on Aging

Huntington, Ind. "Huntington University has partnered with the Huntington County Council on Aging to help senior citizens make decisions about prescription drug coverage.

State Insurance Health Assistance Program counselors Sheila Rethlake and Bill Hancher will offer sessions to assist Medicare beneficiaries with choosing a Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan by using the Medicare Web site, www.medicare.gov. These sessions are a follow-up to the informational meetings held at Huntington's Senior Center over the last two weeks.

Huntington University will provide the location for the first session of this program on Saturday, November 19, 2005, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The session will be held in room No. 175, a computer classroom on the first floor of the Science Hall.

Seniors should schedule an appointment by calling Norma Jean from Senior Center at (260) 359-4410. Clients need to bring an information worksheet to the session. Worksheets can be obtained through the Senior Center.

It is very important to call for an appointment time because we just have so many stations and don't want seniors to have to wait a long time for their time with a volunteer, said Twyla Lee, Huntington University's director of social work education.

Volunteers assisting with this program include Lee, students from the social work program as well as faculty and staff from other departments. The University also will provide a technical services staff person and two student assistants.

It is truly a community event among the seniors, the Senior Center, community members, and HU students and faculty, Lee said.

Other local organizations participating include United Way Agencies and the Huntington County Council on Aging board of directors.
