Leadership Luncheon to feature Stone

Huntington, Ind.-On June 25, the Huntington University Center for Leadership will sponsor a leadership luncheon open to business and community leaders.

The luncheon will feature Dr. Mike Stone, the founder of Fort Wayne-based Impact Strategies Inc., a company whose clientele includes private and community foundations, United Ways, social services agencies, school systems and community development organizations. The focus of Impact Strategies Inc. is to work with organizations on strategic planning, evaluation planning and implementations as well as collaborative planning and research.

Stone's presentation is titled "Mindful Leadership: Getting Your Story Straight."

During his presentation, he will discuss Howard Gardner's concept of cognitive leadership that "speaks to the power of words in affecting the thoughts of actions of others." Using Gardner's framework, Stone will speak about how to view a set of circumstances in terms of a narrative and how this allows a person to see his or her role within the storyline.

Stone will also integrate Parker Palmer's work into his discussion as a "way of helping all of understand the importance of authenticity in leadership, which is derived from a deep sense of our own evolving stories as individuals," Stone said.

The luncheon will be held in the upper level of Habecker Dining Commons from noon to 1 p.m. The cost is $20, and it includes lunch. Discounts are available when two or more attend from the same business or organization. To register, call (800) 600-4888. Walk-ins also are accepted.

This event is part of a series of luncheons offered on the fourth Thursday of every month.

The Huntington University Center for Leadership is housed on the university's campus in the EXCEL Adult Degree Programs office.
