Students participate in Great Forester Speak Off

Huntington, Ind. "Each semester, Huntington University hosts The Great Forester Speak Off, a competition showcasing the oratory talents of students enrolled in the Public Speaking course. A student from each class section is nominated by his or her fellow classmates to compete against the other nominees. Students are then judged by their peers.

Senior Brian Welfle won this semester's Forester Speak Off on May 5, 2006, in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. Welfle is an instrumental music education major from Norwalk, Ohio. Runner-up honors were awarded to junior communication studies major April Snider. Snider is from Wapakoneta, Ohio. For their efforts, Welfle and Snider were awarded exemption from the final exam in Public Speaking.


Other students competing in the Speak Off were Jennifer Coplen, a freshman elementary education major from Fort Wayne, Ind., and Katie Sprunger, a sophomore business major from Berne, Ind.
