Two HC students receive honors at Miss Huntington pageant

Huntington, Ind. "Huntington College students Sarah Kennedy and Katie Smith took second runner-up and third runner-up, respectively at Sunday's Miss Huntington pageant. HC students Cassandra Bailey and Alyssa Schwaiger also competed in the day's pageant. Kennedy, a sophomore accounting major from Huntington, Indiana, received a $750 scholarship for her second runner-up performance. She energized the crowd with a jazz dance to the tune of "I Will Survive." Kennedy is the daughter of Daniel and Marileah Kennedy.
Smith, a junior music major from Oak Creek, Colo., was named third runner-up and received a $500 dollar scholarship. In the talent section, she performed a Mozart concerto on the French horn. Smith is the daughter of Royal Anderson II and Cynthia Anderson.
Bailey and Schwaiger were each rewarded a $200 scholarship for their participation in the pageant. The honors of Miss Huntington 2002 went to Jana Henly, a student at IPFW.
Huntington College graduate Katy Monroe, Miss Huntington 2000 and 2001, performed several vocal selections that afternoon, including "I'm Afraid This Must Be Love," which won a preliminary talent competition in last June's Miss Indiana program. Monroe graduated in 2001 with a degree in oral communications and currently works as an account manager at television station WKJG in Fort Wayne.
