University to host information session for seniors
FOR RELEASE: Tuesday, January 3, 2006
Note: This event has been cancelled as of Friday, January 6, 2006. A new press release will be issued when the information session has been rescheduled. Huntington, Ind. "Huntington University, in partnership with the Huntington County Council on Aging, will host an information session for senior citizens making decisions about prescription drug coverage on Saturday, January 7, 2006, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The session will be held in rooms numbered 164-166, computer classrooms on the first floor of the Science Hall. The University also held an information session on November 19, 2005.
Sheila Rethlake and Bill Hancher, State Insurance Health Assistance Program counselors, will be on hand to help Medicare beneficiaries choose a Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan by using the Medicare Web site, www.medicare.gov.
Seniors should schedule an appointment by calling Norma Jean from Senior Center at (260) 359-4410. Clients need to bring an information worksheet to the session. Worksheets can be obtained through the Senior Center.
It is very important to call for an appointment time because we just have so many stations and don't want seniors to have to wait a long time for their time with a volunteer, said Twyla Lee, Huntington University's director of social work education.
Volunteers assisting with this program include Lee as well as others from Huntington University. The University also will provide technical services staff.
It is truly a community event among the seniors, the Senior Center, community members, and HU students and faculty, Lee said.
Other local organizations participating include United Way Agencies and the Huntington County Council on Aging board of directors.
