3 Must-See Events to Add to Your September Calendar

Mark your calendars for these Merillat Centre for the Arts events.

“Excuse me…did you say September? When it’s not even August yet?”

Yes! Although it is only mid-July, now is the perfect time to start setting aside dates in September to attend a lecture, gallery reception, or recital at Huntington University. The start of the fall semester is a busy time for most, with a variety of events and activities available on campus and in the Huntington community. To help you plan ahead, let’s take a look at three such events that will take place in the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

Consider this your invitation to join us! All of these events are free and open to the public:

1. September 21: Forester Lecture

7:30 p.m. | Zurcher Auditorium

Dr. Jason Thacker will start off our annual Forester Lecture series with a discussion of the ethics of artificial intelligence. With the recent boom in widespread use of generative AI, his lecture is sure to be both timely and informative as we navigate the new frontiers of content creation.

2. September 29: Gallery Reception

4:00-5:30 p.m. | Robert E. Wilson Art Gallery

The September gallery reception will feature artist Terry Pulley, whose paintings will be on exhibition in the Robert E. Wilson Art Gallery from September 20 through November 1. If you can’t make it to the reception to meet Pulley, you can still view the exhibition Monday-Friday at any time from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., when the Gallery is open to the public (no appointment needed). Admission to the Gallery is free.

3. September 29: Senior Recital

7:30 p.m. | Longaker Recital Hall

As if September 29 couldn’t get any more awesome, the evening will also feature Allison Jennings in her senior vocal recital. Jennings, a soprano, will present music selections that represent the culmination of her time and hard work at Huntington University. Her recital will kick off a season of concerts, showcases, and recitals spotlighting our Foresters’ excellent talent in all areas of music.

These three September events are only the beginning — we have an entire season of events lined up in the Merillat Centre for the Arts that you will want to see. (Spoiler alert: There will be a Huntington University Theatre Company musical theatre production coming up in November!) To keep up to date with all of the events taking place on Huntington University’s home campus in 2023-2024, check out our complete calendar at huntington.edu/Events.
