FOR RELEASE: Thursday, April 26, 2001
Huntington, Ind. " Top Huntington College sophomores will be honored for their academic efforts by the Indiana Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi, an interdisciplinary national honor society for college students. A reception is planned for April 29 in the home of the President of college, Dr, and Mrs. G. Blair Dowden for the top eight students in the sophomore class. Parents and friends were invited to attend. The sophomores to be honored are:
Joshua Garvey, a business management major from Homer, Alaska.
Erika Helm, an elementary education major from Waynesboro, Pennsylvania.
Jennifer Herring, an oral communications major of Caledonia, Michigan.
Lauren Hines, a psychology major from Wauconda, Illinois.
Jonathan Ringger, a business management major of Decatur, Indiana.
Rachel Rohrs, a math education major from Van Wert, Ohio.
Rebecca Schmit, an elementary education major from Uniondale, Indiana.
Gretta Yoder, an elementary education major from Berne, Indiana.
These exceptional students all have a cumulative grade point average of 3.97 or higher and will most likely become members of Alpha Chi when they become eligible as juniors and seniors. Dr. Paul Michelson, college sponsor of Alpha Chi and professor of History, says, Since membership in Alpha Chi is limited to juniors and seniors, we wanted to do something to honor students who have worked hard their first two years of college.
The Huntington College chapter of Alpha Chi was recently named the winner of the President's Cup recognizing the chapter as the most outstanding of Alpha Chi's 300 chapters nationally. The President's Cup is awarded every second year. The chapter is also one of only eight schools to be named a Star Chapter all six years the award has been in existence.
