Dr. Jessi Haeft Hired as New Professor in Huntington University’s Agriculture Program

With years of teaching experience and expertise in soil health, sustainable agriculture, and experiential learning, Haeft joins the Haupert Institute for Agricultural Studies

HUNTINGTON, Ind. — Huntington University has hired Dr. Jessi Haeft as an associate professor in the Haupert Institute for Agricultural Studies.

Haeft joins Huntington after 12 years at Ball State University, where she taught courses in soil science, sustainable agriculture, precision agriculture and natural resource management. She brings extensive experience in teaching, research and hands-on agricultural education, with expertise in soil health, agroecology and precision agriculture.

“Dr. Haeft bring years of teaching experience and high-level scholarship across a broad range of topics in agriculture,” said Dr. Luke Fetters, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty. “She is well-respected in the region, having partnered with local FFA chapters as well as agriculture industry leaders at the local, regional and state levels.”

Throughout her career, Haeft has emphasized experiential learning by creating opportunities for students to apply classroom knowledge through research projects, student farms, conservation initiatives and partnerships with agricultural professionals. Her work has focused on helping students develop practical skills while addressing real-world challenges in agriculture.

“I'm elated to have Dr. Haeft on the HU ag team,” said Dr. Jessica Graves, director of the Haupert Institute for Agricultural Studies. “She brings with her a diverse portfolio of coast-to-coast agricultural production experiences. Additionally, her tenure of teaching and equipping students through classroom instruction and experiential learning activities, coupled with her passion to mentor students through a Christ-centric lens, will enhance the unique learning environment within the Haupert Institute for Agricultural Studies. She is a living example of the faith, family and farming foundation that we stand upon, and the future is bright for HU ag!”

Haeft earned a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science and a Master of Science degree in agriculture from California Polytechnic State University before completing a PhD in agriculture with a concentration in soil science at the University of Kentucky.

As she joins Huntington University, Haeft looks forward to equipping students for careers in agriculture through academic excellence, practical experience and Christian mentorship.
