Animation artist Tom Gasek to visit Huntington

Huntington, Ind.-Animation artist Tom Gasek will visit Huntington University on April 11 and 12. Friday, he will host a closed session exclusively for digital media arts students. Saturday, he will host "An Animation Artist Presentation" open to the campus community and the public at 1 p.m. in room 150 of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. There is no admission charge. His presentation will include a screening and a discussion of his work in the digital media arts industry. Tom Gasek began his career by winning a Student Academy Award. This led to work with Will Vinton, Disney's "Return to Oz," "The Penny Cartoon" from Pee Wee's Playhouse on CBS, Art Clokey's "Gumby" and with Aardman Animations in Bristol, England. Gasek contributed animation to the train chase sequence in Nick Park's Oscar-winning "The Wrong Trousers" and was a key guest animator on Aardman Features' first full-length feature film, "Chicken Run." Gasek continues to freelance with Aardman on projects like the Creature Comforts series. He just finished working with Little Airplane in New York as a guest director on their Nickelodeon hit, "The Wonder Pets." He has several national Addy and Broadcast Design Awards for clients like Levi Strauss, Burger King and Nickelodeon.
Gasek has been teaching at the Rochester Institute of Technology as a visiting assistant professor. He is completing his independent, self-produced animated short film, "Off-Line" and will enter it in festivals around the world. Gasek lives with his wife and son and works from his home-studio in Great Barrington, Mass.
