Art students earn awards at Student Art Exhibit

Huntington, Ind. "Alan Kwok, assistant professor of art at Indiana Wesleyan University, served as the guest juror for the Huntington College 14th Annual Juried Student Art Exhibit, held in the Robert E. Wilson Gallery on April 3. Huntington College art students displayed the exhibit with pieces created throughout the current school year.

Jennifer Longhurst, a junior art education major from London, England, received the Wilson Purchase Award for her woodcut piece, French Village. The piece will now become property of the Huntington College Wilson Gallery.

Best of Show was awarded to Scott Cooper, a senior fine arts major from Huntington, Ind., for his oil painting, Railroad Engineer. Rachel Rhine, a junior graphic design major from Burlington, Ind., won first place overall with her photography, Grasp of Light, Second place overall went to Nicole Woods, a junior fine arts major from Greenville, Ohio, for her ceramic tile sculpture, Keratinized Clay. Lynsi Griffin, a sophomore graphic design major from Marion, Ind., won third place with her photography, Security.

The following students earned Outstanding Achievement in specific divisions:

Basic Design " Luke Hopper, a sophomore broadcast communication major from Huntington, Ind., for an untitled piece; Greg Wardwell, a freshman graphic design major from Beech Grove, Ind., for an untitled piece; and Nuria Bagley, a senior graphic design major from Huntington, Ind., for Tooth of Judgment
Drawing " Erin Hudson, a freshman fine arts major from Rockville, Ind., for A Cry for Peace ; and James Geyer, a freshman graphic design major from Aurora, Ind., for Alone
Painting " Brian Reynolds, a senior art education major from Bourbonnais, Ill., for D.L.
Photography " Travis Spangler, a sophomore graphic design major from Bluffton, Ind., for The Bird
Ceramics " Jarrod Bennett, a junior art education major from Waterloo, Ind., for an untitled piece.
Graphic Design " Caleb Porter, a sophomore graphic design major from Blissfield, Mich., for Identity Suite
Illustration " Christy Harris, a senior graphic design major from New Berlin, Wis., for Holy Week Series

The exhibit will be on display until April 17, 2004 in the Robert E. Wilson Gallery located in the Merillat Centre for the Arts at Huntington College.
