BandFest 2006 to highlight famous composers’ work

Jason Lucker, 2005 Huntington University graduate, shares his musical talents at last year's BandFest. Huntington, Ind. "The Huntington University Music Department is now accepting registrations for BandFest 2006, the 26th annual Band Clinic, to be held February 4-5, 2006. The University's BandFest is open to instrumentalists from grades 8 to 12, college students, and community members who desire an opportunity to perform challenging band music, to work with guest conductors, and to experience Huntington University. Clinic participants will receive small group instruction on their primary instrument from qualified professional musicians during the intensive rehearsals and clinic sessions held on Saturday, February 4.
The primary guest conductor for the BandFest is Mr. John Ginocchio, a doctoral candidate in Instrumental Conducting at Ball State University where he directs the Concert Band and Pep Bands. Also guest conducting during the Band Clinic are Mr. Thaine Campbell, director of Bands at Huntington North High School, and Mr. Marvin McNew, Jr., director of Bands at Whitko Middle and High Schools.
BandFest 2006 will turn the spotlight on composers of excellent band literature. Some of the featured works will be Bullets and Bayonets by John Philip Sousa, Flourish for Wind Band by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Country Gardens by Percy Grainger, Pageant by Vincent Persichetti, Psalm 42 by Samuel Hazo, Espirit de Corps by Robert Jager, and Havendance by David Holsinger.
A Grand Concert will be performed in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts on the campus of Huntington University at 2 p.m., Sunday, February 5, 2006. The concert is open to the public and admission is free. No tickets are necessary.
To register for BandFest 2006, visit the Web site www.huntington.edu/music/bandfest, print out the registration form, and return it with the $30 registration fee to Huntington University Band Clinic, 2303 College Ave., Huntington, IN 46750.
