Banu Gibson & the New Orleans Hot Jazz swing into Huntington

Huntington, Ind. " Huntington College will offer guaranteed toe-tapping fun when Banu Gibson and her sextet, The New Orleans Hot Jazz bring their exceptional musicianship and highly entertaining show to the Merillat Centre for the Arts on Friday, March 28, at 8 p.m.

A superior and swinging jazz singer, Banu Gibson is a powerful force on stage, where her enthusiasm and showmanship are exceeded only by her wide range and versatility, stretching from the material of Bessie Smith to Billie Holiday, from the Boswell Sisters and Lee Wiley to Sophie Tucker and even Fanny Brice.

With an extensive repertoire of songs from the 1920's through the 1940's, Banu's performances cover many highlights of America's golden age of popular music. Not content to copy the past, Banu Gibson and the New Orleans Hot Jazz are creative within the boundaries of the genre. They consistently invent fresh and imaginative variations giving new life to timeless, unforgettable music with their irresistible presentation.
