Betz to present ‘...and in all these things, love’

Huntington, Ind.-Christopher Betz will present "...and in all these things, love..." as his senior theatre project at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2 in the Studio Theatre of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

Betz, a senior theatre performance major from Blissfield, Mich., will use a variety works, all of which have had an impact on him both as an actor and a person, he said. Most of the project consists of musical theatre pieces, described by Betz as his "passion" and "most expressive theatrical art."

"I hope to convey one common message: In every situation, love can be found," Betz said. "Real love. It may not always be a white picket fence, but this raw and candid emotion grabs at the heartstrings. I hope to involve my audience in the same emotional experience I felt when I first came upon each of these pieces."

Featured works will include

"Every Story is a Love Story" from the musical "Aida" by Elton John and Tim Rice

"The New World" from the musical "Songs for a New World" by Jason Robert Brown

"The Funeral Parlor," a short play by Christopher Durang

"The Song That Goes Like This" from the musical "Spamalot" by Eric Idle

"Buck," a monologue, author unknown

"Lost in the Wilderness" from the musical "Children of Eden" by Stephen Schwartz

"The I Love You Song" from the musical "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" by William Finn

a scene from "The Shadow Box" written by Michael Cristofer

"Letting You Go, " "Someone to Fall Back On" and "Coming Together" from "Wearing Someone Else's Clothes" by Jason Robert Brown

"One of the greatest rewards is to be able to perform some of my favorite pieces in one project," Betz said. "I have spent months preparing for this one night to showcase just who I have become through my four years here at Huntington."
