Board approves design concept for new residence hall

Huntington, Ind.-The Huntington University Board of Trustees approved the design concept for an additional residence hall and authorized the development of architectural documents at meetings held April 19-20. Over the summer, as enrollment data is gained, the board's executive committee will make the final decision as to when to begin construction. The impact of the new nursing major will factor into the process.
"We don't want to build too soon, and we don't want to build too late," said Ron Coffey, vice president for student development. "We want to make sure the rooms are available exactly when they're needed."
The InterDesign Group, Inc., of Indianapolis, Ind., created the design concept, which is architecturally consistent with Miller and Meadows Halls. The U-shaped building will sit across from Miller and Meadows Halls with the front entrance facing Lake Street. The new $6 to $7 million facility will have 148 beds and primarily will house first-year freshmen.
