Board votes to grant initial accreditation for nursing

Huntington, Ind.-The Indiana State Board of Nursing has voted to grant full initial accreditation to Huntington University's nursing program. Two board members conducted an on-site review in June and then recommended accreditation, citing the tremendous support and response for the program from the university and its administration as one of the main reasons.
State board representatives will meet Aug. 19 to review the program's admission and progression policies as well as the itemized budget.
Once accreditation is awarded, the nursing program directors will begin seeking accreditation with the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. CCNE is an independent accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a national accreditation agency. CCNE assesses baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs.
"I am excited and thankful for this recommendation as we are now able to initiate the process of accreditation with the CCNE," said Margaret Winter, director of the Department of Nursing. "This has been a wonderful answer to prayer and the result of the efforts of many people."
Huntington University's nursing degree program will enroll its first students in the fall of 2007.
