Burnett to give Forester Lecture

Huntington, Ind. "Mr. Mike Burnett, assistant professor of theatre at Huntington College, will give the annual faculty lecture of the Forester Lecture Series at Huntington College. He will present How can I be a Christian and still do theatre? on Thursday, February 3, 2005, at 7 p.m., in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. The public is cordially invited to attend. Admission is free. This annual faculty lecture of the Forester Lecture Series showcases the best in Christian teaching and scholarship at Huntington College. The lecturer is chosen in a competitive application process and selected on the quality of his or her proposal as well as the suitability of the topic for a broad community audience.
In his lecture, Burnett will tackle various topics that may arise for Christians in a highly secular theatre industry. Such topics will include but are not limited to:
Can you perform a role in which the character is of loose moral fiber or uses foul language?
What is appropriate for stage presentation?
When have you gone too far and how do you know?
Are there overriding morals and beliefs that shape what theatre can or cannot be?
Does receiving public money or private foundation money dictate what is produced?
How do you make appropriate choices?
Huntington College presents the Forester Lecture Series each semester. The free, public lectures are designed to bring interesting persons and topics to the attention of students and the regional community. The semester's lecture series will conclude with the next lecture on April 11, 2005, when Chicago public school teacher Leslie Baldacci presents Faces of Social Justice in Public Education.
