Caley and Michaud receive history memorial awards

Huntington, Ind. " Erinn Caley and Joni Michaud received The Ron Frank History Book Award and The S. G. Whittle Johnson Memorial Award, respectively, for their hard work and successful studies in history. Caley, a senior history major from Byron Center, Mich., received The Ron Frank History Book Award for her outstanding performance in the Great Issues in American History seminar, a course required for all history majors. The award is made possible by the Ron Frank Memorial Endowment in History. This endowment was established in 1973 to memorialize Ron Frank, an HC history major who passed away his senior year. The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding history majors and provide financial assistance while honoring Frank. Caley received $100 worth of books for her personal library.
Michaud, a junior history major from Clarksville, Mich., became the first recipient of The S. G. Whittle Johnson Memorial Award in History. This award was established by a Huntington College history alumnus in honor of a graduate school mentor. The donor wishes to encourage upper-level history students in their study of history. The award goes to the student who submits the most outstanding work of original scholarship to the history department during the fall semester. Michaud's work is entitled The Missionary Life Lloyd Eby in Sierra Leone, 1944-1947 and was conducted using Huntington College's archives. Michaud received a plaque and a $1000 cash reward.
