FOR RELEASE: Monday, November 19, 2001
Huntington, Ind. " The Huntington Colleges Music Department will present a Celebration Concert at the Merillat Centre for the Arts on Friday, December 7, at 7:00 p.m. The Celebration Concert is part of Christmas at Huntington, in which two weeks are filled with various Christmas events to start the season off in a festive mood. The Celebration Concert will include musical pieces performed by the Wind Ensemble, the Brass Ensemble, the Women's Chorale, the concert choir, the Handbells, and the new percussion instruments at Huntington. Included in the musical lineup will be an African spiritual, Bet Le Het Le Mu (Swahili for Bethlehem), performed by the Concert Choir. The Brass Ensemble and Women's Chorale will perform familiar Christmas carols, Christmas spirituals and other familiar songs. Everyone will come together to perform Christmas Festival, a compilation of many familiar songs for the holiday season. The performance will take place on a decorated stage and will last approximately an hour and fifteen minutes.
Dr. Janice Fulbright, HC music department chair and Director of Vocal Studies, says the concert is a great chance to hear the traditional music of the season played and sung in various ways and a chance to hear some new music as well.
